Recipe for Reindeer Food
reindeer are hungry!
Feed Santa's Reindeer

Santa's reindeer will be hungry when they get to your house. While Santa's inside eating the cookie and milk you left him, the reindeer will be waiting outside.  How about leaving them some reindeer food?

Recipe for Reindeer Food

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1 cup instant oatmeal
  3. 1 cup glitter

  4. Mix everything together and scatter around outside. (Santa's reindeer are magical, and they love magical reindeer food.)

Note:  If you live in an area where non-magical creatures like pets or wild animals might get to the reindeer food and eat it, leave out the glitter.  Glitter might hurt real animal stomachs and Santa's reindeer will still enjoy the feast without glitter.  A good substitute for the glitter would be sprinkles used to decorate cakes and cupcakes.

Names of Santa's Original Reindeer
Although he's a good friend of Santa's, Rudolph was not one of the original reindeer.  He came later with the popular Christmas song, "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer."  You can read about the original reindeer in the famous Christmas story, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" here at BlackDog.

Why does Donner (a/k/a Donder) have an alias?  There's a very big controversy on the correct spelling of this reindeer's name.  For the first few years this page was up, BlackDog received between 5 and 25 emails each day about it, but nobody came up with the definitive answer.  So, Donder (a/k/a Donner) will be forever known on BlackDog with that a/k/a beside his name.

A little more information just in. . . .  "Blitz" means lightning in German.  "Blitzen" is the verb form of "Blitz."  "Donner" means thunder in German.  "Donder" is the Dutch word for thunder.
