Lemon Crate Labels Screen Saver

Before 1960 when produce growers and distributors started using cardboard boxes to ship their goods to market, fruits and vegetables were shipped in inexpensive wooden crates and adorned with beautifully crafted labels which were glued to the ends of wooden crates. Labels featured the brand name of the produce, along with the region where it was grown. Since the crates themselves were used as displays in stores, the labels were an important part of marketing produce and often featured wonderful art.  The animated image on this page is a small example of labels used on crates of lemons.

These wooden crates with their colorful labels were shipped all over the nation for nearly 70 years. Late in the 1950's, pre-printed boxes replaced the older wooden crates and the labels were no longer used. The unused labels were stored in warehouses, barns, and all sorts of out-of the way places and forgotten for years. Today, collecting these labels is a growing industry.

BlackDog's Lemon Crate Labels screen saver features dozens of beautiful images that once graced humble fruit crates. This screen saver also has a very cool sticky-note feature so you don't forget those important appointments. A few rules for BlackDog's screen savers:
  1. Do not post BlackDog's screen savers on any other website, newsgroup, or FTP for people to download.  If you do, people won't come to visit BlackDog themselves, the banner ads that pay for everything won't be displayed, and BlackDog won't be able to afford to give things away anymore.
  2. Please don't download the screen saver and then email the file to all your friends, either -- for the same reason.  Just give your friends the url of this web page and they can download it themselves just as easily as you can email it to them.
  3. Please do not link directly to the screen saver downloads on BlackDog from your web site.  Again, just put the link to this web page, please.  In addition to cutting off BlackDog's income, when you do that it ties up our server, slows everything down, and makes BlackDog very unhappy.  (BlackDog changes the names of things frequently to make sure people don't do it, too.)
  4. Kids - Always get permission from your folks before downloading anything from the internet.
Thanks for being considerate.
